Hazel Barbour
BOARD CHAIR
Hazel Barbour is an independent environmental consultant, focusing on air quality. Over the last three years she has worked on the development of strategies to reduce harmful emissions from gasoline and diesel powered engines. Before working as a consultant, she was employed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality as Mobile Source Programs Manager. Prior to coming to Texas, she worked for Shell UK in London as Community Affairs Advisor where she was responsible for developing and managing partnership programs between Shell, British government agencies, and environmental and community action groups.
Hazel is a graduate of the LBJ School of Public Affairs Master’s Degree Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Her undergraduate degree was conferred by the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies with a major in economics.
Hazel has been vice-president of the Board of the Susan G Komen for the Cure Austin Affiliate, a member of the Breast Cancer Services Collaborative Advisory Council, a board member of the Texas Urban Forestry Council, and a member of the marketing committee of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers. On the conclusion of her work with Shell UK, she was honored as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to the U.K. community.
Jordan E. Erdos
BOARD SECRETARY
Jordan E. Erdos is an experienced project manager, policy analyst, author, educator, researcher, and community organizer who has dedicated the past twenty years to pursuit of social and economic justice through work in the government and non-profit sectors.
Jordan is a graduate of the LBJ School of Public Affairs and Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies Master’s Degree Programs at the University of Texas at Austin. His undergraduate degree was conferred by the University of Hartford where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and Government.
Jordan has a long history of activity with non-profit organizations, including work as a Field Organizer with Consumers Union, Fair Housing Specialist with the Austin Tenants’ Council, and Project Assistant with the Ray Marshall Center for the Study of Human Resources. Jordan’s international experience includes teaching English in Argentina; conducting research on rural electrification using renewable energies in Mexico; interning with the Environment Division of the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Säo Paulo, Brazil; and managing 48 funded projects in Brazil and Ecuador as a Policy Development Analyst for the AVINA foundation.
Jordan is also author or co-author of a number of publications, including a grant-funded report, Current Legislative Efforts in Brazil to Regulate Access to Genetic Resources. He is currently an Instructor of English as a Second Language at Capital City Careers and lives in Austin, Texas.
Bob Warneke, Jr.
BOARD TREASURER
Bob has extensive experience with wildlife/habitat protection-related, nonprofit organizations. He served two terms as president of both the Huntsville (Texas) Audubon and Travis Audubon Societies (where he founded the Latin America Committee) and has been a member of the board of Audubon Texas, the state chapter of the National Audubon Society. He currently serves on the boards of the American Birding Association and the Texas Conservation Alliance and is the president of the board of the Malcolm C. Damuth Foundation which is dedicated to making grants to support the acquisition and management of critical habitat in North America.
Professionally, Bob is the General Counsel of the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct. His professional background also includes employment as a Legal Services lawyer, service as an Assistant Disciplinary Prosecutor for the State Bar of Texas, and five years of private law practice in which he primarily represented lawyers accused of professional misconduct.
Bob graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio with Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees, both in biology. His law degree is from the University of Houston. Along with his wife, Jean, he is a part owner of “JB Journeys” a travel company specializing in ecotourism.
Pauline Lewis
BOARD MEMBER
Pauline Lewis is a software professional with expertise in product development and assurance, strategic sales and marketing, international marketing and people management as well as globalization program management. In her senior management roles at IBM and BMC Software, she successfully developed, managed and marketed products for international consumption. She also developed and led the implementation of a customer satisfaction process for IBM. As Principal Consultant for Lewis Marketing Services, Pauline provided not-for-profit clients with creative direction in the areas of strategic planning, marketing and fund raising. She is currently Director of Operations for Bridge360, a software globalization company offering services to private and public sector clients.
Pauline has been the Advisory Vice President for Community Outreach for Austin Women in Technology, past Board Chair and current board member of the Austin Children’s Shelter and a former LifeWorks board member. She also serves Austin Care Communities, Women and Their Work and the Zachary Scott Theater as a volunteer and is an active member of her church.
Pauline is a graduate of the University of Colorado, has an Advanced Certificate in Marketing Management Practice from Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester, England, and holds certification from The Management Institute for Engineers, Scientists and Computer Professionals from the University of Texas, Austin. She is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Austin and a 2007 graduate of the Leadership Texas program.
Bill Talbot
BOARD MEMBER
Bill Talbot joins us with over 12 years of experience as a marketing professional. He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from University of Texas at Austin. In addition to proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese languages, Bill has spent time abroad in Ecuador.
Bill is a Board Member for the Austin Parks Foundation and involved in program development for the Austin Music Foundation. As owner of Austin’s Hill Country Outdoors, Bill encourages members of the community to meet, enjoy the environment, and strive to keep Austin green.
