Artists Studio construction way ahead of schedule!
The Kichwa arts and crafts project is flying along. Originally, the studio had a scheduled completion date near Christmas. However, the hard work of the entire community; their community-owned ecolodge, the Sani Lodge; our partner organization Conservacion y Desarollo and project manager Yessica Gualinga, has paid off enormously and the studio should be done by the end of next week, five months ahead of schedule!
From the beginning, the construction of the studio presented a challenge, because the materials needed to be transported across the river, a very difficult and time-consuming task. The community found a local contractor and used local materials to construct the typical Kichwa structure.
