We planned a meeting after gathering inventory to let the villagers announce the results which were obtained by themselves and the technical personnel in the forest. The inventory results were positive since the piassaba was in the places we thought. Other zones were revealed as unsuitable to manage, but it is possible that they will be indicated as protection areas for being very steep hillsides.Other meetings were organized to talk about the next steps to follow and the development of training/treating workshops. We also spoke to the community about the threats that the piassaba might suffer and ways to protect it by working togetherOn February 12th CIMA [The Center for Conservation, Investigation, and Management of Natural Areas] organized a 2 day workshop with diverse representatives of the community to address some legal topics relating to territorial classification. Jaso and I received an invitation to be present at this workshop. We worked towards strengthening the community’s protection plans. We met with the president to discuss programs and requirements that would support the committee. He planned to patrol the forest for two days to monitor the presence of emigrants in the zone. Rainforest Partnership and CIMA agreed with the need for this activity. On February 14th we notified the piassaba producers about the project advancements and the upcoming activities that would need to be carried out. The meeting ended with a lunch for the whole community, which was very satisfying for all since we came together to share the lunch as friends of the environment.
