What if you could spend part of your lunch hour visiting the Ecuadorian Amazon?
On Friday, August 28, Rainforest Partnership will host Live from the Rainforest: A Virtual Visit to Sani Isla, a special online event connecting supporters with Geovanny, our local program manager, and young people from the Kichwa community of Sani Isla.
The 35–45 minute event begins at 12:00 p.m. Central Time, USA, and is designed to bring participants closer to the people at the heart of Rainforest Partnership’s community-led work.
Meet the young leaders of Sani Isla
Sani Isla is an Indigenous Kichwa community located along the Napo River in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Its young people have organized around a vision for education, opportunity and a strong future rooted in their community and culture.
The Sani Isla Youth Center gives young people a place to gather, learn, develop new ideas and build skills. Their goals include expanding access to educational technology, improving safe transportation and creating opportunities for young people to participate in the future of their community.
Rainforest Partnership works alongside Geovanny and the community to support these locally identified priorities. This is not a short-term or top-down project. It is part of a long-term relationship built on listening, trust and local leadership.
What guests will experience
During the virtual visit, guests will:
- Receive a live welcome from Geovanny
- Meet participating young people from Sani Isla
- Learn what the Youth Center means to them
- See photographs and scenes from the community
- Enjoy a brief live look at the Center
- Participate in an interactive rainforest question or poll
- Hear answers to selected audience questions
Internet access in remote rainforest communities can be unpredictable, so we are also preparing photographs and visual materials to ensure that guests can experience Sani Isla even if the live connection changes.
That uncertainty is part of the reality of working in remote communities—and part of what makes this opportunity so unusual.
More than an online presentation
This event is designed to create a genuine human connection.
Guests will not simply hear Rainforest Partnership describe the project. They will have an opportunity to hear directly from Geovanny and participating young people about their community, their ideas and their hopes for the Youth Center.
Registration and donation-based Rainforest Passes will help support the Youth Center and the work required to sustain it. This includes local coordination, connectivity and technology, educational resources, safe transportation and ongoing program support.
Most importantly, the event recognizes young people as participants and leaders in their own future—not simply as recipients of assistance.
