Every year on June 22, people around the world come together to celebrate World Rainforest Day—a global reminder that the future of our forests depends on the choices we make today.
This year's theme, "The Forest Within You," invites us to recognize our personal connection to nature and our role in protecting the ecosystems that sustain life on Earth. Whether you live near a rainforest or thousands of miles away, the health of these forests affects us all through climate regulation, biodiversity, clean water, and countless other benefits.
For Rainforest Partnership, World Rainforest Day is more than a single day of awareness. It is a celebration of nearly two decades of collaboration with Indigenous communities and local partners who are leading conservation efforts where they matter most: on the ground.
For the past 17 years, supporters like you have helped make meaningful conservation outcomes possible. Together, we have supported women's leadership programs that create opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and environmental stewardship.
We have invested in youth initiatives that empower the next generation of rainforest protectors. We have helped advance butterfly conservation projects that strengthen biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. And we have supported scientific research and field expeditions that deepen our understanding of rainforest landscapes and inform effective conservation strategies.
These achievements demonstrate what is possible when conservation is guided by local knowledge, community leadership, and long-term commitment.
Today, we are excited to share that Rainforest Partnership is entering a new phase of growth in Ecuador, where we have worked alongside Indigenous communities for more than fifteen years. This expansion represents an opportunity to deepen existing partnerships and support new community-led initiatives that address both conservation and sustainable development goals.
Importantly, the priorities for this next chapter come directly from the communities themselves.
As part of this expansion, communities have identified several key initiatives that will strengthen local livelihoods while helping protect the rainforest for future generations:
• Creating pathways for families to sell agricultural products, honey, and artisanal crafts.

• Providing technical expertise and resources for reforestation projects using native fruit trees.
• Acquiring a motorized canoe to safely transport students to and from the Youth Center that supporters helped make possible.

• Expanding community fish farming projects that provide reliable nutrition and income in areas where river contamination has reduced access to traditional food sources.

Each of these initiatives reflects a simple but powerful truth: healthy communities are essential to healthy forests.
When local families have access to sustainable economic opportunities, educational resources, and food security, they are better positioned to continue protecting the ecosystems they call home. This approach creates lasting conservation outcomes while respecting the knowledge, priorities, and leadership of Indigenous communities.
World Rainforest Day 2026 marks the beginning of this exciting new chapter.
We invite you to join us in celebrating the people, partnerships, and possibilities that make this work possible. One meaningful way to participate is by sharing your voice. Create a social media post, record a short video, or tell your own story about what "The Forest Within You" means to you. Together, we can amplify awareness and inspire action around the world.
Most importantly, remember that every action matters. Every conversation, every shared story, and every contribution helps support communities working every day to protect some of the world's most important ecosystems.
